United Information Highway Co., Ltd. or UIH has been providing telecommunication service for more than 10 years. The company foresees an opportunity in tourism especially the island area; for example Phuket, P.P Island, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Toa which have high speed broadband access limitation. UIH hopes that WiMax technology would be a solution to serve high speed internet users. For the trial, UIH is the first one who done the WiMAX trial both with fixed and mobile internet usage. The trial has been done on sailing boat at Patong beach. The result indicated that users can connect the signal with bandwidth more than 8 Mbps and it can use in mobile internet usage. The trial has been success with supports from Motorola and partners. UIH is still waiting for the clear direction and authorization from The National Telecommunications Commission in order to provide the service in the future.
